Do you track dye lots?
We hand-dye just a few skeins at a time so do not track dye lots. However, we do try to match multi-skein orders when we can and recommend, as always, with hand-dyes and large projects, that you knit or crochet alternating skeins every few rows to avoid color pooling or obvious dye lot changes.   If it’s imperative you have a large dyed-to-match lot please let us know, understanding that time to delivery may increase to accommodate the request. We’re happy to help!
I’m allergic to wool, do you dye other fibers?
We work almost exclusively with animal fibers and wool. We do carry certain blends that include plant and synthetic fiber, otherwise we are sorry but do not recommend our yarn for those allergic to animal fiber.
Do you take custom orders?
Almost everything we do is dyed-to-order so feel free to reach out. Email us with what you have in mind and we will discuss timeline and order minimums.
can i visit the studio?
Visits to the studio are welcome but limited and by appointment only. We are a working studio and do not retail from the premises. You may arrange a visit to order yarn in person for future delivery, by contacting us by email.
i keep missing your shop updates and things are out of stock, how do i buy the yarn i want online?
We are primarily a wholesaler to bricks and mortar yarn shops. As a service to those not in proximity to one of these shops, we offer on-line ordering. Items are posted as soon as they are available and often sell out within 24 hours. We post all shop updates on Facebook when they go live so if you want up-to-the-minute news on what’s hitting the shop, please like and follow us there and request our presence in your news feed.
can i order out of stock yarn?
Yes! This is essentially a special order and costs extra time only, not extra money. So shoot us an email and we’ll give you a timeline.
how do you ship?
We ship Monday through Friday, USPS Priority Mail. You will receive an email and tracking number when your order ships, direct from USPS. Delivery time estimates from USPS are just estimates and may vary depending on weather, distance and even your local postal carrier. Orders of $200.00 or more ship free. Please see our shipping policy for more information.
Do you ship internationally?
We will ship internationally on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us to obtain a shipping estimate before placing your order. You, the recipient, are responsible for any customs fees and tariffs.  Your package will be marked as merchandise and include an invoice.
do you take returns?
We want you to love your yarn as much as we do. Please see our How to Choose Your Colors Page and our Return Policy to get all the information you need before ordering. Special orders and yarn we’ve wound for you are non-refundable, non-returnable, non-exchangeable.
do the yarn colors look the same in person as they do online?
Please see our How to Choose Your Colors page for detailed recommendations and information about ordering hand-dyes online.
can you wind my yarn for me?
If you want to get working right away, we offer winding service at a nominal charge of $2.00 per skein, at checkout. Skeins will need to be wound before you can knit or otherwise work with them. If you are unable to wind them yourself, we suggest you consider our winding service (although please note wound skeins are non-returnable, non-refundable, non-exchangeable). Also note, yarn will not be accepted for return due to tangling if someone other than us winds it. If you are not sure how to wind yarn and don’t have help, we highly recommend our winding service for your peace of mind.
how do i care for the yarn?
Please see our content, origin and care chart here.
will the colors bleed?
Our yarns are hand-dyed with care so that minimal to no color transfer should occur. However, if you are planning a project with contrasting color combinations, especially lights and darks—and most especially if you are combining light colors with blacks, browns, reds and teals,  pre-wash your darker colored skeins before you begin working with the yarn. After finishing your project, a short wetting before blocking, not a long soak, is best to avoid any potential migration of dye pigments.
okay, so how do i pre-wash yarn?
This is best done with a skein that has not yet been wound.  Fill a basin with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild soap only ( we recommend dreft or ivory snow) and carefully add the yarn. Let it soak for a few minutes – no specialty detergents, vinegar or other additives are necessary. Remove your skein from the basin, run gently under cool water, and squeeze, do not wring, excess water out. Hang over a line to dry.
do i have to pay sales tax?
If your order is being delivered in Maryland, yes. Sales tax in Maryland is 6%.
do you gift wrap?
Yes! Please note at checkout your gift option choices and we will gift wrap any item for just $5.00. Our standard wrap is kraft paper wrap with our choice of yarn or fabric ribbon bow, and an oak tag gift tag with our logo on one side and your personalized message hand-written on the other.
do you send samples?
We are sorry we do not offer samples as each hand dyed skein is of a specific yardage and of unique quality.
how do i get on your mailing list?
We have an email newsletter  and you may subscribe here.   (It is a low-volume newsletter only once every few weeks at the most) We do not mail paper catalogs or coupons but post news, specials and updates frequently on Facebook so please like and follow us there to stay up to date.
