Modern Icons: Francis (Blue) (Patron of Animals, Pets, Environment, The Poor)
These Modern Icons are inspired by my interest in the ancient iconography of saintly figures. My whimsical take leaves details in the abstract, adds bright colors, collage, and texture. Each piece includes significant metallic and glittery detail as a nod to the gilded elements of ancient examples of this subject matter.
Each icon is mixed media on a 4x6" Artist quality, hand-splined cotton canvas that is .75" deep. Triple gessoed under many layers of media, your icon includes acrylic paint, modeling paste, vintage papers and fabrics, paint skins, paint pens, and faces collaged from 140lb watercolor paper. You will also note plenty of glittery and metallic effects.
The name of each saint is indicated in the item title, along with the edge treatment color. "Gold" indicates metallic gold acrylic painted edge, "Red" indicates a red acrylic painted edge with gold metallic accents, and "Blue" indicates a blue acrylic painted edge with gold metallic accents.
The finished pieces are varnished with archival grade UV protective varnish.
